Buying a car: price and description
The price on the car is the price to drive it away. There are no admin fees.
We describe every car honestly. Anything we tell you about a car before you buy it, on its page, in writing or at the viewing, forms part of its description. You're welcome to inspect the car yourself, or bring a mechanic, the AA or the RAC, before you decide.
Holding a car with a deposit
If you'd like us to hold a car for you, we can take a deposit. We'll agree the amount and how long we'll hold the car in writing before you pay. If the car isn't as described, or we can't complete the sale, we'll refund your deposit in full. If you decide not to buy for any other reason, the deposit isn't refundable.
Paying and taking the car
You pay by bank transfer. The car becomes yours once the full payment has reached our account.
You can collect the car from us in Guildford, or we can deliver it anywhere in mainland Britain for a price we agree before you commit. The car is your responsibility from when you or someone you nominate collects it, or from when it's delivered.
Your rights when you buy a car
Buying from a dealer, you're protected by the Consumer Rights Act 2015. The car must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. In short:
- If a fault that was there when you bought the car shows up within 30 days, you can usually reject it for a refund.
- After that, you can ask us to repair or replace it. If that doesn't put it right, you may be entitled to a price reduction or a refund, less a fair amount for the use you've had.
- In the first 6 months, a fault is assumed to have been there when you bought the car, unless we can show otherwise.
Nothing in these terms takes away these rights.
Buying without visiting us
If you buy a car without visiting us, for example by phone or email with delivery, you can cancel within 14 days of receiving it under the Consumer Contracts Regulations. Tell us in writing, and return the car in the condition you received it. We'll refund you within 14 days of getting it back. We may deduct any loss in value caused by handling the car more than needed to examine it, and the cost of returning it if we agreed that before you bought.
Car inspections
An inspection costs £200 within 50 miles of Guildford, and £2 per mile beyond that. You pay before we inspect. You can cancel free of charge until we set off to see the car. If the car is sold before we get there, we'll rebook or refund you.
Our report describes the car as we found it on the day, using checks that don't involve taking it apart. It can't cover faults that appear later or that couldn't be found that way.
Full search
A full search costs £500 and includes three in-person inspections. Extra inspections are £50 each, within 50 miles of Guildford, and £2 per mile beyond that.
You pay £250 up front and the rest when you buy a car we've found. The up-front payment covers the search and the inspections, so once we've started work it isn't refundable.
Trade auction buying
Our fee depends on the value of the car, as set out on Find me a car, and covers as many bids as it takes until we win the right lot. We only ever bid up to the limit you've agreed.
You pay £250 up front and the rest of the fee when we win a lot for you. The price of the car and the auction's own fees are paid separately. The up-front payment covers assessing lots and bidding, so once we've started work it isn't refundable.
Cancelling a service
If you book a service without meeting us, you can cancel within 14 days. If you ask us to start within those 14 days, we'll charge for the work done up to when you cancel, and once a service has been fully provided it can no longer be cancelled.
Our responsibility to you
We're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or not using reasonable care and skill. We're not responsible for loss that wasn't foreseeable, or for business losses. Nothing here limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit.
Complaints and the law
If something goes wrong, see how to complain. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings there.
Looking for something specific?
Tell us the car, the spec and the budget. We'll tell you honestly whether we can find it, and what it should cost.
